Lamborghini opts for the latter, giving its blessing to German motorsport garage Reiter Engineering to campaign race-prepped Raging Bulls in European sportscar series. Earlier this month we brought you the first details and images on Reiter’s latest racecar, a Gallardo LP560-4 prepped for the GT2 class. With that out of the way, Reiter is now reportedly turning its attention to its next project for the top-tier GT1 class. It’s basis: the spankin’ new Murcielago SV.

The ultimate version of the Lamborghini supercar was just revealed at the Geneva Auto Show last month, but the boffins at Reiter Engineering aren’t about to waste any time. No details yet, but if the rear-drive-only LP560 GT2 is any indication, we can expect Reiter to axe the Murci’s all-wheel-drive system to save weight as well. The GT1-spec Murcielago SV is being developed for the 2010 season, when the FIA GT Championship will be split into the GT2 European Championship and the GT1 World Championship. While the aforementioned LP560 will take on the former, the competition Superveloce will take on the likes of the Nismo GT-R, Ford GT and two or three more anticipated models, each supplying a maximum of two teams with two cars each, in the latter that will include races in Argentina, Australia, South Africa and the UAE in addition to the European events.

Reiter’s been known to turn the racing versions of Lamborghini’s roadcars back into street machinery, with examples like the Gallardo GT3 Strada and Murcielago R-GT Strada in its repertoire

In the weeks leading up to the 2008 Paris Motor Show, the rumor mill was spinning at full speed at the prospect of a new high-performance, rear-wheel drive Lamborghini supercar. Instead, we got the Estoque four-door sedan concept. However, the failure of Lamborghini to deliver pure driving performance at the Paris show doesn’t necessarily mean Lamborghini has given up on the idea.

According to AutoTelegraaf, at least two high-performance two-wheel drive Lamborghinis are on the way. The first will surface in 2009 and will be based on the company’s new Gallardo. To reflect its two-wheel drive layout, the new model will be called the LP560-2, but will also sport the Superleggera– Italian for ‘superlight’ – nameplate. This is a divergence from the current Gallardo Superleggera, which does with Lamborghini’s all-wheel drive system.

Although the new Gallardo Superleggera will be down two drive wheels, it promises to up the car’s performance quotient. In tandem with an expected power bump, the Superleggera’s even lighter curb weight should mean a marked improvement in all categories of performance.

Following the release of the LP560-2, Lamborghini is planning on launching a two-wheel drive version of its Murcielago. Following the Gallardo’s new naming scheme, the new Murci will be dubbed the LP640-2. The new model won’t dawn the Superleggera nameplate, but it could wear the SV badge in production. The LP640-2 would shed at least 220 pounds compared to its all-wheel drive counterpart.

No official word from Lamborghini on when we can expect to two new supercars, but a concept version of the Murcielago could appear at March’s Geneva Motor Show.

Anyone searching for the exceptional simply has to look to edo competition. Tapping its roots as one of the ultimate performance vehicle tuners, the company from Ahlen, Germany has turned its eyes towards a very special car, the new Lamborghini Murciélago LP 640. The already extremely capable monster has been turned into the world’s fastest and most powerful Lamborghini by edo competition: the edo LP710 /2.

The increase in power was achieved through the use of new exhaust headers, new high flow catalytic converters, new mufflers, a new exhaust tip, new performance camshafts, modified cylinder heads and new high flow air filters. The engine controls are reprogrammed to make ideal use of the individual modifications. This powerful package is brought to perfection with optimized aerodynamics which enhances the stability of the mighty bull and bestows the car with an even more dynamic elegance. A newly developed and beautifully shaped rear wing with an adjustable lip completes the aerodynamics package. A high-speed wheel and tire combination: 19 inch light alloy wheel set with special Continental high-speed tires: 225/35 ZR 19 Continental V-max in the front and 325/30 ZR 19 Continental V-max in the rear.

High performance exhaust system
A marvelous sound emanates from the edo competition stainless steel high performance exhaust system which includes a new exhaust tip. A new butterfly-valve control system – remote-controlled on request – is available, too. The more aggressive rear view is a great side-effect.

Drivetrain / clutch
edo competition has developed a new single disc clutch. Additionally the 4-wheel drive arrangement is turned into a 2-wheel drive setup. The LP 710 /2 is delivered with rear wheel drive. Weight savings of 40 kg (88 lb) and more agile handling are the result of this conversion. All modifications are carried out exclusively at edo competition Motorsport GmbH in Ahlen.

The limited-edition Lamborghini by Versace is finally going into production for fall. The car, which will be a convertible in contrast to the coupe originally developed, will be a bright pastel white with a black-and-white leather interior. The price of the special-order Murciélago LP 640 Roadster Versace has yet to be named, but expect to pay a healthy premium above the model’s already hefty base price of $358,000. The V12 roadster, designed by Donatella Versace and just unveiled in Milan during Men’s Fashion Week, will feature a see-through engine bay cover and the fashion house’s signature Greek key motif on the doors, front fascia and nappa leather seats. Versace has also designed an accompanying line of black calfskin accessories including luggage, wallet, gloves, driving shoes, hat and even a pair of leather jeans all bearing an engraved metal Lamborghini Versace tag.

Imsa, the world-acclaimed, German High-Tech Engineering specialist, exclusively presents, after successfully introducing the stunning imsa GTV Supercar based on all versions of the Lamborghini Gallardo, its new technology and design- enhancement program for Lamborghini’s current top-of-the-range supercar, the Murcielago LP640.

Special emphasis must be laid on the technology- and design-package made from Autoklav moulded carbon fibre. Technology which is normally only being used in Formula 1 and other Top-motorsports Series. Imsa’s main target was, for all owners of the Lamborghini Top-of-therange- model, to offer an exclusive product line, transforming the Murcielago both technically and optically into a unique work of art, with the aim of significantly enhancing the exclusivity of Lamborghini’s Top-model.

The strinkingly aggressive and aerodynamically highly effective front apron (spoiler) perfectly aligned to the wheel arches (widened 35mm on each side), directly becomes apparent.

On the upper side of the wheel arches, imsa CFK air ducts have been integrated, resulting in a significant reduction of the drag effec caused by non-aerodynamic airflow at higher and highest velocity. The imsa side-skirts on the underside guarantee the optimum airflow to the imsa diffuser, which has been developed for an aerodynamically perfect interaction with the imsa rear spoiler. Imsa herewith achieved to considerably lower the downforce at higher and highest speeds. The benefits for the driver are a significant enhancement of driving stability, safety and enjoyment.

All parts of the imsa-aerodynamic-enhancemen program are either available in carbon-onsigh or can be painted in any colour of choice. The imsa aerodynamic-enhancement-program is available from November 2007 on and will soon be available for the “standard” Murcielago as well. The imsa technical enhancement program also includes – exactly as for the imsa GTV Supercar based on the Lamborghini Gallardo – exclusive imsa multi-part sports wheels with central locking system, various sports chassis with individual settings, and, last but not least, various imsa engine modifications and own engines. At imsa, each customer is fully involved in the creation of his personal, unique imsa-Megacar handcrafted according to highes German standards of quality and precision. Additionally, personalised tailor-made interiors inclusive of various multi-media applications are also being fitted on special request.
